Strong yields and free lunches from Kanza Co-op locations are making the 2017 wheat harvest one to remember.
“Grain quality, test weights, moisture levels and yields are good so far,” says Jim Bob Lewton, chief grain operations officer for Kanza.
“Early on during harvest, it was clear that yields may rival the impressive yields harvested in Kanza’s trade territory in 2016,” Lewton adds.
Kanza is also carrying on the Andale Farmers Co-op’s tradition of providing free harvest lunches. Kanza employees grilled brats and hot dogs at various locations throughout Kanza’s trade territory each week during the last couple weeks of June. The free lunches include bottled water provided by the bank in Andale.
“These harvest lunches are something people look forward to,” says Nick Krehbiel, chief compliance officer at Kanza. “We’re happy to provide these meals so farm families have one less thing to worry about during this busy season.”
Stay safe, and enjoy this time of year, Lewton adds. “We’re off to a good start. It looks like it will be another great harvest.”
